Vintage Pokémon cards are worth protecting, and fakes exist. Here are the quick checks we use before listing a card.
1. Compare with a card you trust
Put the card next to one you know is real from the same set. Check the colours, the font, and the border. Fakes often look too bright, too dull, or slightly off in weight and spacing.
2. Look at the card back
The blue on the back should match a genuine card. Fakes are often a different shade or look washed out.
3. Feel the card
Real cards have a consistent stiffness and finish. Very glossy, very thin or very flimsy cards are a warning sign.
4. Check the print up close
With a magnifier, genuine cards show a fine, regular dot pattern. Blurry text and smudged edges point to a copy.
5. Use the light test with care
Some fakes let more light through than a real card. It is a hint, not proof, so use it alongside the other checks.
